According to the “Unfaithful” actor, his parents even though didn’t have lots of money supported their inclinations; they employed teachers who nurtured their children’s skills. He admitted:

“We weren’t brought up with a lot of money, and the scraping it took to have an education and music teachers was an extraordinary thing.”

While recalling his childhood, during honors at the 2019 City Harvest Festival Gala Tuesday, Richard Gere applauded his father for being a good man, a principle passed down to him. According to theactor, his father is a good man who never wanted anyone around him to suffer, even strangers. He also claimed that his father Homer George Gere was primarily passionate and that he often showed up to relieve anybody, whatever the need was. He remains thankful to his dad and even named his firstborn after him.

Homer George Gere gives back to society

According to Richard Gere, his father launched a Meals-On-Wheels in his hometown, which he became dedicated to for the rest of his life. According to the actor, his father insisted on buying a “cheeseball car because the trunk was the right height for him to get the meals in to take around to his neighbors so he didn’t have to bend over.”

While talking to his father about the inspiration behind the Meals-on-Wheels, Homer answered– “There was kind of an abandoned house, that’s where we got started with Meals-On-Wheels. We kind of fill the need for people as they got older. When you can feel somebody else benefitting by your life in some way, you can’t help but feel good about it, I think.”

In May last year, Homer turned 100, and his actor son staged an intimate birthday dinner in a Pasta Restaurant in their hometown. Homer George Gere celebrated his 100th birthday on a beautiful Sunday at an Armory Square restaurant. The birthday party took place at Pastabilities, one of the oldest and most renowned restaurants in Armory Square.

To celebrate Homer’s centenary, the restaurant posted a picture of the Geres with their guests and some Pasta’s staff shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday on its Facebook and Instagram pages with the caption-“Richard Gere came in to Pasta’s tonight to celebrate his fathers 100th birthday”

The duo spent the evening with other well-wishers who appeared excited to mark such a milestone with the Meals-On-Deals volunteer. Homer’s wife and Richard’s mother, Doris, died in 2016. Despite losing his lifelong wife, Richard Gere’s father Homer George Gere continues to show his passion for helping people, despite his age.
